Custom textile design in progress

It has been the happiest time developing artwork for a new custom textile design job full of organic native forms loosely based on Tasmanian plants.

Studying these plants through drawing is fascinating, especially getting into the curly world of bracken ferns.

Workspaces

There is something so relaxing to me about looking though Pinterest at other peoples creative workspaces.  The desks an studio spaces in the pictures are always so nicely styled and clean.  I had a nostalgic meander through my photos last night and picked out a history of my workspaces over the years.

From dysfunctional desks that somehow got me through uni, to making do with wall space when I had no desk at all, to finally having my own studio... the journey has been long and messy.

Runestore

I mentioned a few posts back that I was attending Panama Festival as a stall holder (Lone Star Valley, Northern Tasmania) with my long time jeweller buddy, Emily-Eliza Arlotte.

Leading up to the festival, people would tell me snippets of their past experiences attending the Circus Festival, which was held in the same location.  Above all, it was emphasised what a beautiful and special place Lone Star Valley is.

Setting off, I was excited to experience this special part of Tasmania described to me and the festival itself, which has only been running for a few years.

Runestore is a joint venture for Emily and I this year.  We set it up after we had already booked in a few market dates (some people work better under pressure!).  It was fantastic to learn more about jewellery and gem stones over the weekend.  By the last day I was reeling off facts like a pro!

The other thing I learned over the weekend was to always go to a festival with a friend who has bright blue hair and a tendency to wear sequinned clothing.  They are like a beacon day and night, which is vital when phone reception is non existent and you get lots in crowds easily.

 

Silhouettes

Silhouettes sketched from Knocklofty reserve and West Hobart nature strips.  If you live in the area, some of these probably came from your front garden!  I love the wild, spiky ways of these natives.

Stallholder at Panama Festival 2015

Emily Eliza Arlotte Jewellery and myself will be sharing a dreamy stall at Panama festival the 7th & 8th March in the beautiful Lone Star Valley, Tasmania.

In the studio, preparations are in full swing with a selection of new designs and products being made which will launch at the festival, including scarves and head wraps.

Poppies

It's the new year - full of possibilities, and a year set to be full of some big and exciting changes in my world, including getting the time to fully explore my own creative ventures, which is exciting but also a little scary to be entering the unknown.

I started off the Christmas/New Year period with family on the north west coast of Tasmania. Beautiful, abundant farmland surrounds was easy on the eyes as I drove the long trip from home.

Sketchbook

New print and pattern ideas from the last week.  Banksias, seed pods and twigs have become my new favourites - I have been giving these guys names of endearment as I go along eg 'Picli'.  Sometimes it feels a little mad drawing patterns, repeating the same thing over and over. 

Pozo & Frond featured on Threadbound

It was a great experience to speak about my work with Jodie Cheetham of 'Threadbound' - a blog exploring Australian textiles and homes with heart.  Threadbound featured a post and some photographs of new Pozo and Frond prints this week.

I am feeling very grateful for this interest  in my work.  Threadbound is shaping up to be a beautiful, thoughtfully written blog well worth a gander!
